About Banasura Hills
Banasura Hills is a prominent highland and trekking destination in Wayanad district, Kerala, rising above the Banasura Sagar reservoir near Padinjarathara. DTPC Wayanad places the hills at about 6,800 feet above sea level and describes them as one of the high mountain ranges of the Western Ghats. The landscape combines forest, grassland, steep rocky sections and broad views over the reservoir and valleys below.
A recognised trekking approach follows the Meenmutty-Kattukunnu-Aanchola route, and permission from the Forest Department is required for the climb. The Banasura Sagar Dam sits at the foot of the hills, while Banasura Meenmutty Waterfalls is another major attraction in the same tourism zone. The hills are named after Banasura, a figure from Hindu mythology.
Because this is a regulated trekking area rather than a casual roadside viewpoint, visitors should confirm current permissions, entry arrangements and weather conditions before travelling.
