Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathy Temple

Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathy Temple is a major place of worship near Mananthavady in Wayanad district, Kerala, with deep connections to the district’s tribal communities. DTPC Wayanad identifies Goddess Durga or Bhagavathy as the presiding deity, worshipped in the forms of Vana Durga, Bhadrakali and Jala Durga. The temple is especially famous for its annual festival in the Malayalam month of Meenam, when ritual events, tribal participation, folk performances and traditional art forms become central to the celebrations.

DTPC records practices including kodiyettu, kalamezhuthu and other ceremonial observances performed over the festival period. Kerala Tourism also recognises Valliyoorkkavu as a shrine that plays an integral role in the lives of Wayanad’s tribal communities. Located only a few kilometres from Mananthavady town, the temple is accessible as part of a cultural circuit that can also include Pazhassi-related heritage and other northern Wayanad attractions.
