Athirappilly Waterfall

Athirappilly Waterfall is the signature natural attraction of Thrissur district and one of the most recognised waterfalls in Kerala. Located in Athirappilly Panchayat in Chalakudy Taluk, the falls form on the Chalakudy River near the entrance to the Sholayar forest ranges. Kerala Tourism and the Thrissur district administration identify Athirappilly as the largest waterfall in the state, with a drop of about 80 feet.

Visitors come for the broad cascade, forest scenery, river views and the experience of walking through a lush Western Ghats landscape. Viewpoints around the upper area offer wide perspectives, while a forest path leads toward lower viewing areas where permitted. The flow becomes particularly impressive during the monsoon, although wet paths and strong water conditions call for extra care.

Vazhachal Waterfalls and Charpa Falls are nearby, making Athirappilly a natural anchor for a waterfall-focused day trip from Chalakudy or Thrissur. The surrounding forest is also noted for rich birdlife, including hornbill habitat.
