Chimmini Dam

Chimmini Dam lies beside Chimmini Wildlife Sanctuary in the eastern part of Thrissur district and forms one of the most scenic reservoir landscapes in the region. Kerala Tourism identifies the dam as being built across the Kurumali River, a tributary of the Karuvannur River, with the reservoir framed by forested hills. Its close relationship with the wildlife sanctuary gives the site a stronger wilderness character than a typical urban picnic dam.

The water body, green slopes and quiet surroundings make it attractive for photography and relaxed nature viewing, while regulated coracle or boating experiences may be available through local ecotourism arrangements. Chimmini is also included in Thrissur’s official dam-tourism circuit along with Peechi, Vazhani and Poomala. Visitors can combine the reservoir with sanctuary-based activities when programmes are operating, but access to forest zones is controlled and can vary by season.

The best experience comes from treating the area as an ecotourism landscape rather than only a dam viewpoint and by following Forest Department guidance around water, wildlife and trails.
