Vazhani Dam

Vazhani Dam is a scenic earthen dam in the Vazhani area of Thrissur district and one of the district’s established dam-tourism destinations. Kerala Tourism records that the dam was constructed in 1962 and describes it as one of Kerala’s large clay dams. The reservoir is bordered by green hills and the broader Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary landscape, creating a quiet setting that feels removed from the busier urban areas of Thrissur.

Visitors can enjoy lakeside views, a maintained garden and perspectives from the hanging bridge, while sanctuary-linked trekking routes add an adventure option for those using authorised ecotourism programmes. Vazhani is also part of Thrissur’s official Brown Circuit for dam tourism, alongside Chimmini, Peechi and Poomala. The site is well suited to slow sightseeing, family time and landscape photography, particularly in the softer light of morning or evening.
