Thekkinkadu Maidan

Thekkinkadu Maidan occupies the historic centre of Thrissur city, encircling Vadakkumnathan Temple and forming one of Kerala’s most recognizable urban cultural spaces. The ground is closely tied to the identity of Thrissur, a city widely known as the Cultural Capital of Kerala, and it serves as the main venue for Thrissur Pooram. During Pooram season, the maidan and surrounding city centre are transformed by temple processions, powerful percussion ensembles, ceremonial parasol displays and large gatherings connected with the participating temples.

Kerala Tourism and the Thrissur District Administration both identify Thekkinkadu as central to this annual festival tradition. Outside major events, the open green precinct provides a useful visual and geographic anchor for exploring the heritage core of Thrissur. Visitors can combine Thekkinkadu Maidan with Vadakkumnathan Temple, Paramekkavu Bhagavathy Temple, nearby museums, churches and city shopping streets.
