Chinese Fishing Nets, Fort Kochi

The Chinese Fishing Nets of Fort Kochi, locally called Cheena Vala or Cheenavala, form one of the signature images of Ernakulam tourism. Positioned along the Fort Kochi waterfront near Vasco da Gama Square, the nets are large cantilevered fishing structures traditionally built with timber and bamboo and operated through a carefully balanced system of ropes and counterweights.
