About Areekkal Waterfalls
Areekkal Waterfalls is a nature attraction near Pampakuda in Ernakulam district, Kerala. The Ernakulam District administration places the falls about 35 kilometres from Kochi on the Ernakulam–Thodupuzha side, while Kerala Tourism describes the cascade as a serene destination surrounded by woods and rubber plantations. Unlike Kerala’s very large waterfall sites, Areekkal is better suited to a shorter countryside visit, offering a refreshing break amid green vegetation and rocky flowing water.
The appearance and strength of the cascade are seasonal, so the visual experience can vary considerably between dry periods and the monsoon-influenced months. Visitors often combine the spot with road trips through the eastern side of Ernakulam and nearby towns such as Pampakuda and Piravom. As with any waterfall, wet rocks and changing water flow require sensible caution, particularly during or immediately after heavy rain.
