About Mappila Bay
Mappila Bay, also written Mapilla Bay or Moplah Bay, is a natural harbour area on the Kannur coast of Kerala, around Ayikkara and the historic waterfront. Mapilla Bay can be viewed from St. Angelo Fort, linking the harbour closely with one of Kannur's best-known heritage landmarks.
The bay is shaped by fishing and maritime activity, so visitors experience a working coastal environment alongside sea views and harbour scenery. It is best combined with St. Angelo Fort, Ayikkara and other nearby waterfront stops rather than treated as a swimming beach.
Boats, harbour infrastructure and operational zones should be viewed from appropriate public areas, with care taken not to obstruct fishing work. Morning and evening visits can be especially interesting for observing the rhythm of the harbour and photographing Kannur's meeting of maritime heritage and present-day coastal life.
