Poonthanam Illam

Poonthanam Illam is a traditional Keralam house at Keezhattur in Perinthalmanna taluk, Malappuram district, associated with the devotional poet Poonthanam Namboothiri. The Malappuram District Administration describes the illam as his house and notes the nearby Sreekrishna temple where he worshipped. Keralam Revenue Department further identifies Keezhattur as the location of Poonthanam Illam and describes it as a popular cultural centre maintained by Guruvayur Devaswom.

Poonthanam is remembered above all for Jnanappana, a devotional Malayalam work that has remained influential in Keralam’s Bhakti tradition.
