Karimpuzha Wildlife Sanctuary

Karimpuzha Wildlife Sanctuary is a large protected area in Nilambur taluk of Malappuram district, Kerala, on the western slopes of the Nilgiris. Kerala Forest Department records identify it as the state’s 18th wildlife sanctuary, declared in 2019, with an area of about 227.97 square kilometres. The sanctuary spans forest landscapes associated with the revenue villages of Karulai, Moothedam and Amarambalam and sits within a wider ecologically significant Nilgiri forest belt.

Its importance is primarily conservation: dense forests, riverine habitats and connected wildlife landscapes support rich biodiversity and ecological continuity. This is not a destination where unrestricted sightseeing should be assumed. Entry, trekking or guided access may depend on Forest Department rules, season, weather and conservation needs, so visitors should use only officially permitted routes and current local guidance.
