Payyoli Beach

Payyoli Beach lies on the Malabar Coast in northern Kozhikode district, Kerala, about 35 kilometres north of Kozhikode city. Kerala Tourism describes the beach for its golden sands, shallow waters and palm-fringed coastal atmosphere. It is a popular local seaside destination and forms part of a scenic coastal belt that includes Thikkodi, Kadalur Point and the offshore rocks of Velliyamkallu.

Payyoli is also widely associated with celebrated Indian athlete P. T. Usha, popularly called the Payyoli Express.

The area's natural importance extends to the coast as well: Kerala Tourism notes visits by Olive Ridley turtles during the nesting season and local conservation work connected with Theeram. North of the main beach, the Moorad river and sandbank environment adds birdwatching and estuarine scenery. Visitors can enjoy beach walks, sunsets and the slower rhythm of a northern Kerala coastal town.

Turtle nesting areas and other sensitive stretches should be treated respectfully, and sea conditions should always be assessed before entering the water.
