About Sargaalaya Keralam Arts and Crafts Village
Sargaalaya Keralam Arts and Crafts Village is located at Iringal near Payyoli in Kozhikode district, Keralam. Developed as an initiative of the Keralam Department of Tourism, the craft village is designed to preserve, present and market traditional craftsmanship while giving visitors direct contact with working artisans. Keralam Tourism describes the campus as extending across about 20 acres beside the Moorad River, with numerous craft stalls and spaces for demonstrations and cultural activity.
The experience is more than shopping. Depending on the programme and season, visitors may see artisans working with traditional materials, explore craft displays, attend cultural events and spend time in the landscaped riverside surroundings. Sargaalaya is also known for its annual craft-focused events and its role in supporting artisan livelihoods through tourism.
The village is managed by the Uralungal Labour Contract Co-operative Society and is often cited as a responsible-tourism-oriented project. Its location near Payyoli, Koyilandy and Vadakara makes it easy to combine with beaches, Velliyamkallu or the Kunjali Marakkar heritage sites.
