Comtrust Heritage Building

The Comtrust heritage building on Mananchira Road represents an important chapter in Kozhikode's industrial history. Kerala Tourism traces the Commonwealth Handloom Weaving Factory to an enterprise established in 1844 by Basel Mission missionaries from Switzerland. Over time, the factory became a significant producer of handloom textiles and related fabric products, linking local skill and industrial organisation with wider markets.

The historic premises stand close to Mananchira and the commercial heart of Kozhikode, making the building an easy addition to a city heritage route. Its value is not based on a single decorative feature but on the story of organised textile production in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Calicut and the role of the Basel Mission in introducing new industrial practices. The site also helps broaden a Kozhikode itinerary beyond beaches and royal-era landmarks to include labour, manufacturing and trade history.
