About Vellarimala

Vellarimala is a dramatic mountain landscape in the Western Ghats associated with both Wayanad and Kozhikode. Kerala Tourism explains that a major portion of the range lies on the Wayanad side while it also extends into the Thamarassery forest division of Kozhikode. The terrain is characterised by steep hills, river valleys, waterfalls, large rock formations and cliff views, creating one of northern Kerala's more demanding trekking environments.

Vavul Mala, at about 2,339 metres, is identified by Kerala Tourism as the tallest peak in this range and one of the highest points in the Western Ghats north of the Nilgiris. The attraction is the wilderness itself: changing cloud, dense forest, mountain streams and long-distance views rather than built visitor infrastructure. Because the range spans a broad mountainous area and published access descriptions refer to different approach points, this CSV intentionally leaves PIN, locality, taluk and coordinates blank instead of assigning one unverified postal point.

Trekking should only be planned with current Forest Department permissions, local guidance and suitable weather conditions.
