Pallivasal

Pallivasal is a hill village in the Munnar region of Idukki district, combining plantation scenery with a major chapter in Keralam’s power-generation history. Keralam Tourism identifies Pallivasal as the site of the state’s first hydroelectric project, inaugurated in 1940 during the Travancore period. The hydel development includes reservoirs, dams and power infrastructure spread through the surrounding high-range landscape, linking the village closely with the evolution of modern electricity supply in Keralam.

For travellers, however, Pallivasal is not only an engineering landmark. Tea-covered slopes, green valleys and its proximity to Munnar make the area attractive for scenic drives, short walks and relaxed stops away from the busiest tourism points. The village also sits near other popular attractions, including Attukad and Pothamedu.

Pallivasal is therefore best understood as a mixed heritage-and-nature destination: historically important, visually appealing and easy to include in a broader Munnar itinerary.
