Chithirapuram

Chithirapuram is a small hill town in the Munnar region of Idukki district, known for tea plantations, a peaceful atmosphere and remnants of an older plantation settlement. Keralam Tourism places it roughly 13 kilometres from Munnar and describes a landscape dotted with cottages, historic bungalows and traces of old recreational spaces that give the village a distinctive old-world feel. Chithirapuram is also closely connected with the Pallivasal Hydel Power Project, one of the major landmarks in the history of electricity generation in Keralam.

For visitors, the town’s appeal is understated: plantation views, cool weather, quiet roads and heritage character rather than a single must-see monument. It can be explored while travelling between Munnar, Anachal and Pallivasal, and works well for travellers interested in the lived landscape of the tea-growing high ranges. Chithirapuram offers a slower, more residential perspective on Idukki tourism than the main Munnar sightseeing circuit.
