Ummichipoyil and Varikulam are Kasaragod megalithic sites featuring ancient muniyara rock-cut caves, umbrella stones and other prehistoric remains across two separate localities.
Ummichipoyil and Varikulam are presented together by Keralam Tourism as important megalithic heritage locations in Kasaragod district. Ummichipoyil is described on a laterite hilltop in Karinthalam, where rock-cut caves known as muniyaras have yielded archaeological material linked with the Megalithic Age. Varikulam, described in relation to the Kolathur area and the Chandragiri River landscape, is associated with kudakkallu or umbrella stones and distinctive rock benches.
The two sites are therefore connected by archaeological theme rather than by a single postal location. Current Keralam Revenue Department records place Karinthalam in Vellarikundu taluk with PIN 671314, while Kolathur is in Kasaragod taluk with a different postal area. To avoid assigning one inaccurate PIN or taluk to a two-location destination, those fields are intentionally left blank in this combined record.
Visitors should treat the remains as fragile heritage and avoid disturbing archaeological features.
