Polachira Wetlands

Polachira Wetlands are part of the low-lying landscape near Paravur and Chirakkara in Kollam district. Seasonal water, open fields and shallow wetland habitats create feeding and resting areas for a variety of birds, and the locality has become known among nature enthusiasts for birdwatching and photography. Unlike a formally landscaped tourist park, Polachira is best experienced as a living rural wetland whose appearance changes with rain, cultivation cycles and water levels.

Early mornings and late afternoons generally provide better light and quieter conditions for observing birdlife. Visitors should remain on public approaches, avoid entering cultivated or private land without permission and keep a respectful distance from birds. The wetlands can be paired with Paravur Backwaters, nearby beaches and other nature attractions in the southern part of Kollam district.
