Chittur Gurumadom, also known as Thunchan Gurumadam, is one of Palakkad's most meaningful literary heritage sites. The memorial is associated with the 16th-century poet Thunchathu Ramanujan Ezhuthachan, who is traditionally believed to have spent his final years in Chittur. The two-storeyed traditional building stands near the Sokanasini River and preserves a collection of objects connected with his memory, including manuscripts, a stylus, wooden slippers, devotional items and a portrait.
The site has particular importance during Vijayadasami, when families visit for Vidyarambham, the ceremonial initiation of children into learning. Beyond pilgrimage, Gurumadom offers travellers a direct connection to the development of Malayalam language and literature. Its quiet riverside setting and traditional architecture make it suitable for a reflective cultural visit while exploring Chittur and southern Palakkad.
