Arookutty Backwaters

Arookutty sits in the northern part of Alappuzha district, where settlements, canals and backwater channels shape daily travel and village life. The Arookutty Backwaters are best understood as a landscape experience rather than a single monument: water, coconut groves, jetties and homes along the banks form the attraction. Kerala Tourism has identified Arookutty as part of Alappuzha’s wider backwater tourism circuit and has included the locality among places developed for houseboat-terminal connectivity.

Visitors can appreciate the scenery from local roads and waterside points or use properly licensed boating services where available. Compared with the heavily promoted houseboat zones closer to Alappuzha town, Arookutty offers a different perspective on the district’s northern backwater geography and its links with Cherthala. The setting is especially suitable for slow travel, village photography and observing everyday movement on the waterways without expecting a conventional ticketed attraction.
