Ayyampara Hills

Ayyampara Hills is an emerging hill and picnic destination in Kottayam's Meenachil region, reached from the Erattupetta-Muttom side. The landscape is dominated by a broad rocky plateau rising to around 2,000 feet, with open views across the surrounding valleys, settlements and waterways toward the Erattupetta and Pala region. Local traditions connect the rock with the Pandavas and explain the older association with the name Anchupara; an Ayyappa temple and a cave are also part of the hill's cultural setting.

For most visitors, however, the strongest attraction is the exposed highland landscape, especially in the late afternoon when the light opens across the hills. Basic walking and trekking are possible, but the rock surface can become slippery in rain and unprotected edges require care. Ayyampara is less commercial than many established viewpoints, making it suitable for travellers seeking a quieter hill stop while exploring eastern Kottayam.
