Bandadukka Fort

Bandadukka Fort is a rural historic fort site in Bandadka, Kasaragod district, Keralam, and forms part of the district’s extensive fort heritage. Local government information notes that Bandadka is also known as Kottakal because of the fort. Set amid the eastern Kasaragod countryside, the surviving laterite remains offer an offbeat heritage stop away from the major coastal tourism circuit.

Why this place stands out

Bandadukka Fort is a lesser-known laterite fort at Bandadka in eastern Kasaragod, representing the district’s wider network of rural historic defensive sites beyond the coast.

Bandadukka Fort, commonly associated with Bandadka village, is one of the lesser-known forts that give Kasaragod its strong historic identity. Keralam Tourism lists Bandadukka alongside Bekal, Chandragiri, Hosdurg, Kumbla, Povval and Kundamkuzhi as part of the district’s fort landscape. Keralam Revenue Department information for Bandadka village also notes the local name Kottakal in connection with Bandadka Fort, confirming the fort’s place in local geography and memory.

Today the attraction is best approached as a rural heritage ruin rather than a fully developed monument with extensive visitor infrastructure. The laterite remains and wooded inland setting help visitors understand that Kasaragod’s defensive architecture extended far beyond the famous Arabian Sea forts. Bandadka village is in Kasaragod taluk under Kuttikkol Panchayat, and official postal information supports PIN 671541.

Travellers should use care around uneven masonry and respect nearby private or community land.
