Bay Island Driftwood Museum

Bay Island Driftwood Museum is a specialised private museum at Kumarakom in Kottayam district, built around the creative possibilities of naturally weathered wood. Its collection originated with Raji Punnoose, a retired teacher who gathered driftwood, roots and other wood forms from the shores of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands and developed them into an extensive display. Many pieces retain the suggestive shapes produced by sea, wind and erosion, while careful finishing reveals forms resembling animals, birds and abstract figures.

The museum provides a very different experience from Kumarakom's lakes, houseboats and bird sanctuary, making it a useful stop for visitors interested in craft, natural forms and personal collections.
