Cheeyappara Waterfalls

Cheeyappara, Devikulam, Idukki, Keralam

Cheeyappara Waterfalls is a striking multi-tier cascade beside the road between Neriamangalam and Adimali in Idukki, on a major approach to Munnar. Water spreads across a steep rocky face in successive levels, framed by dense greenery. Its convenient roadside setting makes Cheeyappara a popular photography and refreshment stop, especially when seasonal rains strengthen the waterfall and surrounding forest turns intensely green.

Why this place stands out

Cheeyappara Waterfalls is a seven-tier roadside cascade between Neriamangalam and Adimali in Idukki, popular on the Munnar route for forest scenery, seasonal waterfall views and convenient photography stops.

Cheeyappara Waterfalls is one of the best-known roadside waterfall attractions on the journey toward Munnar through Idukki district. Keralam Tourism places the falls between Neriamangalam and Adimali and describes the water descending over a series of seven rocky tiers. The combination of a tall sloping rock face, forested surroundings and easy access from the highway makes Cheeyappara a natural pause for travellers heading into the high ranges.

Flow varies considerably with rainfall, so the waterfall is generally more dramatic during and after the monsoon than in drier periods. The roadside location is convenient, but visitors should remain alert to traffic, wet surfaces and slippery rocks rather than attempting unsafe climbs or entering strong water. Nearby Valara Waterfalls creates a useful two-stop waterfall circuit on the same approach to Munnar.

Cheeyappara is especially suitable for landscape photography and a short nature break, while longer stays are usually planned in Adimali, Munnar or other destinations deeper in Idukki.
