Chellanam Fishing Village

Chellanam is a coastal village and gram panchayat in Kochi taluk of Ernakulam district, Kerala, with a long relationship to fishing and the Arabian Sea. The tourist interest here comes from the lived coastal landscape: fishing communities, boats, narrow settlement corridors, open sea views and stretches of protective sea wall all form part of the setting. Chellanam has also been at the centre of major coastal-protection work because the shoreline is exposed to rough monsoon conditions and sea erosion.

Visitors should therefore approach the area as a working fishing village rather than as a fully serviced beach destination. The coast can be rewarding for photography, local observation and slow drives through the southern Kochi shoreline, but weather and sea conditions deserve respect. Chellanam also fits naturally into wider coastal routes connecting Kochi with nearby backwater and village-tourism areas.
