Chulannur Peafowl Sanctuary

Chulannur Peafowl Sanctuary is a protected wildlife area in Palakkad district covering about 3.42 square kilometres. Keralam Forest Department records show that the sanctuary was formed in 2007 and later dedicated to the memory of K. K.

Neelakantan, one of Keralam's best-known ornithologists. The habitat supports Indian peafowl along with other birds of the region, and the Forest Department also highlights conservation value for species such as the Grey Junglefowl. Its modest size makes the experience different from a large tiger reserve: the focus is on patient birdwatching, woodland observation and understanding a specialised protected habitat.

The Forest Department identifies September to January as a favourable visiting period. Entry conditions, timings and access rules can change, so travellers should check current Forest Department guidance before visiting, especially during periods of fire risk, heavy rain or wildlife-management restrictions.
