International Coir Museum

International Coir Museum is located at the Coir Board complex in Kalavoor, Alappuzha district, a fitting location in a region long associated with Kerala's coir industry. The museum was inaugurated in 2014 and presents the history and evolution of coir, from the extraction and processing of coconut fibre to mechanisation and modern product development. Exhibits explain how a traditional household material became central to Alappuzha's social and economic life and later developed into a diversified industry producing mats, handicrafts, furnishings and many other items.

The museum's 'coir beautiful' theme also draws attention to the creative possibilities of the fibre, and a souvenir section gives visitors a chance to see finished coir products.
