Kaduthuruthy Valiapally

Kaduthuruthy Valiapally, formally associated with St. Mary’s Forane Church at Kaduthuruthy, is one of the notable historic churches of Kottayam district. Keralam Tourism places the church on the Main Central Road between Ettumanoor and Vaikom and records a tradition that dates its origin to around AD 500.

The church’s own official history similarly presents it as an ancient Knanaya Christian centre. A large stone cross at the entrance is one of the site’s most prominent heritage elements and has become closely identified with the church. Kaduthuruthy’s position on a major historic road corridor gives the destination easy access and allows it to be combined with nearby temples, churches and the Adityapuram Surya Temple.
