Kallada Dam (Parappar Dam)

Kallada Dam at Thenmala is commonly referred to as Parappar Dam or Thenmala Dam and forms one of the defining landscapes of eastern Kollam district. Built across the Kallada River, the dam creates a large reservoir framed by forested hills close to Shendurney Wildlife Sanctuary. Keralam Tourism includes the dam within the Thenmala leisure experience, where riverside walks, viewpoints and other eco-tourism activities allow visitors to appreciate the water body and surrounding Western Ghats scenery.

The destination works particularly well for photography, quiet landscape viewing and as part of a full day at Thenmala, rather than as an isolated stop. Access to dam structures may be controlled for safety and operational reasons, so visitors should use designated public areas and follow local instructions. Nearby attractions include Thenmala Ecotourism zones, forest trekking programmes and the sanctuary landscape.
