Why this place stands out
Interactive heritage museum at Park View, Thiruvananthapuram, presenting Keralam’s archaeology, art, architecture and cultural history through artefacts, themed galleries and multimedia interpretation.
Keralam Museum of History and Heritage is situated at Park View in central Thiruvananthapuram, opposite the Napier Museum and zoo precinct. Created as an interactive museum of Keralam’s cultural history, it uses artefacts together with information panels, video, touch-screen and multimedia interpretation to present the state’s past in an accessible way. The displays move across periods and themes such as prehistory, the Iron Age, early and medieval history, sculpture, wood and bronze traditions, architecture, mural painting, performing arts and musical culture.
The museum itself occupies a heritage building with arched openings, pillars and a mix of traditional and colonial design, giving the visit an architectural dimension as well. It is particularly useful for first-time visitors because it provides a broad historical framework that can enrich later trips to temples, forts, palaces and museums elsewhere in Keralam. A library, theatre and visitor facilities have also formed part of the museum concept.
