Kumbla Fort

Kumbla Fort stands near Arikkady at Kumbla in Manjeshwaram taluk, northern Kasaragod. Keralam Tourism identifies the fort as an ancient structure associated with the Bednore or Keladi Nayakas, a dynasty that played an important role in the post-medieval history of the region. The location itself explains much of the fort’s strategic value: the Arikkadi River lies to the east while the Arabian Sea is to the west, providing natural defensive advantages.

Kumbla was also historically connected with local rulers and maritime activity, giving the ruins wider significance than their present physical condition might suggest. The surviving fort is less monumental than Bekal, but that makes it an appealing stop for travellers interested in lesser-known Kasaragod forts and regional history. Visitors should expect ruins and open terrain rather than a fully restored complex and should take care around uneven laterite remains.
