Why this place stands out

Kurisumala, Kumily, also called Spring Valley Mountain, is a Christian pilgrimage and viewpoint hill near Thekkady with views of the Periyar Valley and Tamil Nadu plains.

Kurisumala, Kumily, is a Christian pilgrimage hill near Kumily and Thekkady in Idukki district, Keralam. Keralam Tourism explains that the name means “Cross Mountain” and places the destination about two kilometres from Kumily. Pilgrims climb the mountain on Good Friday in remembrance of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ, giving the hill a strong devotional identity.

The landscape is equally important to visitors. The approach through Kollampattada and the climb towards Kurisumala open to views over the Periyar Valley, rolling high-range hills, parts of Kumily and the plains of Tamil Nadu near the state border. Misty mornings and quieter evenings give the mountain a particularly atmospheric character.

Spring Valley is an official postal locality in the Periyar area with PIN 685509, and Keralam Revenue places the area in Peerumade taluk. The place name includes “Kumily” here to distinguish it from the separate Kurisumala attraction near Vagamon already present in the Idukki tourism database. Visitors should behave respectfully during pilgrimage periods and prepare for changing hill weather.
