Why this place stands out
Madavoorpara is a protected heritage-and-hill attraction near Kazhakuttom, Thiruvananthapuram, featuring a 9th-century rock-cut Shiva temple, Vattezhuthu inscriptions, viewpoints and a bamboo bridge.
Madavoorpara is a distinctive hill-and-heritage destination on the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram, Keralam, near the Kazhakuttom–Pothencode side of the city. Its main historical feature is a rock-cut Shiva temple dating to around the 9th century CE, carved into the rock and associated with ancient Vattezhuthu inscriptions. The Keralam Department of Archaeology lists the monument as a protected site, adding strong archaeological importance to the destination.
The surrounding rocky hill rises above the neighbourhood and provides broad views of greenery and attractive sunset scenes. A roughly 100-metre bamboo bridge is one of the best-known visitor features, and the developed area also includes simple family recreation facilities such as a children’s park and elevated viewpoints. Madavoorpara therefore suits travellers interested in archaeology, local history, short hill walks and photography.
Visitors should treat the cave shrine respectfully as both a protected monument and an active sacred site.
