Madayi Mosque

Madayi Mosque is an important historic mosque at Madayi in Kannur district, Kerala, near the Pazhayangadi area and the Kuppam River. DTPC Kannur records a strong local tradition connecting the mosque with the Muslim scholar and traveller Malik Ibn Dinar and with the early spread of Islam along the Malabar Coast. The site is believed to have very old origins, while a plaque at the mosque bears the date 1124 AD, giving the place a tangible historical reference within its larger body of tradition.

The present structure stands on an older foundation and was renovated in 2006, incorporating Indo-Saracenic design elements. A white marble block inside the mosque is traditionally said to have come from Mecca. Madayi itself is an area rich in layered cultural and landscape heritage, and the mosque adds an important religious dimension to a visit around Pazhayangadi and Madayipara.
