Malayattoor St. Thomas International Shrine

Malayattoor St. Thomas International Shrine is one of Kerala’s most important Christian pilgrimage destinations, located at Malayattoor in Ernakulam district. Kerala Tourism records the shrine’s traditional association with St.

Thomas the Apostle and notes its international shrine status. Pilgrims climb Kurisumudi, a hill rising above the surrounding landscape, stopping at Stations of the Cross and visiting places associated with the St. Thomas tradition.

The annual Malayattoor Perunnal, celebrated around the Sunday after Easter, draws large numbers of devotees, many carrying wooden crosses as part of their vows. The hilltop setting, forested approach and views over the Periyar-side countryside give the pilgrimage a strong natural dimension as well as religious significance. The shrine is also close to Kalady, creating an unusual multi-faith heritage circuit within eastern Ernakulam.

Visitors should plan for a hill climb and follow shrine guidance, particularly during busy pilgrimage periods.
