Meenmutty Waterfalls, Aralam

Meenmutty Waterfalls lies within the forest landscape of Aralam Wildlife Sanctuary in Kannur district, Kerala. Unlike a roadside waterfall, Meenmutty is closely tied to the sanctuary’s trekking and ecotourism experience. Kerala Tourism describes the falls as being in the heart of Aralam and notes that a trek to Meenmutty can take almost four hours, with rainforest scenery, birds and butterflies forming part of the journey.

The sanctuary’s ecotourism programme has also included a full-day Meenmutty outing using a jeep and guide, with forest viewpoints such as Pothenplavu adding to the route. This makes the destination as much about experiencing the Western Ghats ecosystem as reaching the waterfall itself. Because access is through a protected wildlife area, visitors should rely on the current instructions of the Forest Department or sanctuary authorities for entry, guides, permitted routes and seasonal restrictions.
