Why this place stands out

Palkulamedu is a trekking hill in Kanjikuzhy, Idukki, featuring grasslands, shola patches, a summit pond and panoramic views across the Western Ghats and reservoir country.

Palkulamedu is a scenic trekking hill in Kanjikuzhy village of Idukki district, Keralam. Keralam Tourism describes the destination as a panoramic peak about 12 kilometres from Idukki, while the Idukki-Kanjikuzhy Grama Panchayat specifically lists Palkulamedu among the village’s major tourist places. This corrects older tourism records that sometimes place the attraction simply under Idukki Township.

The mountain landscape combines rolling grass-covered slopes, patches of shola vegetation, exposed rock and a small freshwater pond near the upper reaches. From suitable viewpoints, visitors can look towards the Periyar gorge, Idukki reservoir country and distant plains when atmospheric conditions are exceptionally clear. Sunrise and sunset are especially valued by photographers.

Access is adventurous rather than urban: the local panchayat describes a narrow, steep route with numerous bends leading towards the hill. Visitors should therefore check current road and trekking conditions and avoid attempting difficult sections in unsuitable vehicles. Rain, mist and wildlife movement can add risk. Kanjikuzhy is in Idukki taluk and its post office area uses PIN 685606.
