Pazhassi Smarakam

Pazhassi Smarakam is an important historical attraction in Mananthavady, Wayanad district, Kerala, dedicated to Kerala Varma Pazhassi Raja, remembered as the Lion of Kerala. The memorial stands on the banks of the Kabani River at the place where his body was cremated. The tomb was converted into a museum in 1996 and is managed by the Kerala State Archaeology Department.

Collections and displays relate to Pazhassi Raja, local history, tribal heritage, weapons, coins and other aspects of the region's past; Kerala Tourism also notes the preservation of Pazhassi Raja's sword among the relics associated with the memorial. Pazhassi Raja resisted the East India Company for years, making the site especially significant for visitors interested in Kerala's anti-colonial history.
