About Pazhayangadi Mosque, Kondotty

Pazhayangadi Mosque at Kondotty is one of Malappuram district's recognised Islamic heritage and pilgrimage sites. Keralam Tourism describes the mosque as around 500 years old and associates it with the revered Sufi figure known as Kondotty Thangal, also identified as Muhammad Shah. The building is noted for Mughal-influenced architectural features, including its distinctive large white dome and decorative details that stand out against the surrounding Malabar landscape.

The mosque is also widely known as Kondotty Mosque or Kondotty Qubba. Its best-known annual observance is the Valiya Nercha, traditionally held around February or March, when religious gatherings, processions, recitations, food distribution and cultural activity bring large numbers of people to Kondotty. Outside the festival period, the site offers a quieter opportunity to understand the religious history and architectural diversity of Malappuram.

Because it remains an active place of worship, visitors should dress modestly, avoid disrupting prayer and follow any access instructions given locally. Pazhayangadi Mosque can be combined with nearby Kondotty and Arimbra Hills attractions, giving travellers a route that connects Malappuram's spiritual heritage with its hill landscapes and airport-side tourism corridor.
