Peechi Dam

Peechi Dam is a long-established leisure and irrigation landmark in Peechi, about 22–23 kilometres east of Thrissur city. The Kerala Revenue Department notes that the dam began as an irrigation project for surrounding villages, while Kerala Tourism highlights the reservoir, garden and boating as key visitor attractions. The dam sits beside the larger Peechi-Vazhani Wildlife Sanctuary landscape, so the setting combines an engineered reservoir with forested hills and rich biodiversity.

Families commonly visit for the open views, landscaped areas and relaxed lakeside atmosphere, while nature-focused travellers can pair the dam with sanctuary activities where permitted. Peechi also forms part of Thrissur’s official dam-tourism circuit with Chimmini, Vazhani and Poomala. The nearby Kerala Forest Research Institute adds to the area’s long association with forest science and conservation.

Boating, access points and opening arrangements can change with water level, weather and local management, so visitors should follow current instructions. The destination works especially well as a half-day nature excursion from Thrissur.
