Why this place stands out
Peermade is a historic hill station and plantation centre in Idukki, Keralam, known for tea and spice landscapes, Travancore-era associations, cool Western Ghats scenery and easy access to nearby viewpoints and hills.
Peermade, also written Peermedu or Peerumedu, is one of Idukki district’s established hill stations and plantation centres. Keralam Tourism places it at about 915 metres above sea level and describes a landscape of tea, cardamom, coffee and rubber plantations mixed with waterfalls, rocky outcrops, meadows and misty hills. The destination is traditionally associated with Peer Mohammed, a Sufi saint and spice trader, and it also carries links to the former Travancore royal family, whose summer retreat is part of the area’s heritage.
Peermade is useful both as a destination in its own right and as a base for nearby high-range attractions such as Kuttikanam, Thrissanku Hills, Pattumala and Parunthumpara. Walking, cycling and scenic drives suit the landscape, while the plantation setting gives the town a distinct identity within central Keralam’s Western Ghats. For visitors travelling toward Thekkady, Peermade offers an easy way to add plantation heritage, hill scenery and slower outdoor experiences to the journey.
