Peringalkuthu Dam

Peringalkuthu Dam is an important reservoir and hydroelectric installation in the Chalakudy region of Thrissur district, Kerala. The Kerala Fisheries Department includes Peringalkuthu among the state's reservoirs, and Kerala State Disaster Management Authority records identify it as a dam subject to operational management. The reservoir lies within the broader forest-and-river landscape associated with the Chalakudy basin and the Athirappilly–Vazhachal tourism corridor.

The attraction for travellers is primarily the surrounding scenery: wooded slopes, reservoir water and the dramatic Western Ghats environment. However, Peringalkuthu is working infrastructure rather than an unrestricted recreation site. Gates, dam structures, power installations and forest approaches may have access controls, and conditions can change during heavy rain or dam operations. Visitors should use only permitted public viewpoints or roads, obey security and forest instructions, and never enter restricted water or engineering areas.
