Ranni

Ranni is one of the principal towns of eastern Pathanamthitta and occupies an important position on both banks of the Pamba River. DTPC Pathanamthitta refers to it as the “Queen of the Eastern Hill Lands,” a fitting description for a town that opens toward plantations, forests and the Western Ghats. Historically, Ranni developed through regional trade and its location on routes connecting central Travancore with the hill country.

Today it is also widely recognised as a gateway toward Sabarimala and several natural attractions in the wider Ranni region. Visitors will find a lived-in Keralam town rather than a purpose-built tourism enclave: river views, markets, local food, religious sites and the rhythms of everyday life sit alongside access roads to waterfalls, forests and pilgrimage areas. Ranni is useful both as a destination for understanding eastern Pathanamthitta and as a practical stop while exploring the district’s highlands.
