About Sivagiri Mutt
Sivagiri Mutt is an important spiritual centre on Sivagiri hill near Varkala in Thiruvananthapuram district. It is inseparably associated with Sree Narayana Guru, the philosopher and social reformer whose teachings on equality, education and spiritual progress shaped modern Keralam. Keralam Tourism describes Sivagiri as the Guru’s final resting place and the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sanghom Trust.
The campus includes the white-domed samadhi, the Sharada temple and spaces connected with the movement’s religious and educational work. The annual Sivagiri pilgrimage, traditionally held around the end of December and beginning of January, brings large numbers of devotees and admirers to the hill. At quieter times, the landscaped setting allows a more reflective visit focused on the Guru’s life and ideas.
Sivagiri is close enough to combine with Varkala’s beach and temple attractions, yet its atmosphere is distinctly contemplative. Visitors should observe the dress, silence and photography rules applicable within sacred areas.
