Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple is a famous Hindu temple located in the heart of Thiruvananthapuram, the capital city of Kerala. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here in the form of a reclining deity, known as Anantha Shayanam. The temple is considered to be one of the most sacred places for Hindus in Kerala, and it attracts thousands of devotees and tourists from all over the world every year.

The temple is an architectural marvel, with its intricate carvings, elaborate gopurams (towering entrance structures), and a beautiful pond, known as Padmatheertham. The temple’s main entrance, known as the Eastern Gate, is adorned with a beautiful tower, known as the Gopuram, which rises to a height of over 30 meters.

The temple’s history dates back to over 1000 years, and it has been an important center of worship for the royal families of Travancore. The temple is believed to have been built by King Marthanda Varma, who dedicated the temple to Lord Vishnu, and it has been renovated and expanded by subsequent kings.

The temple is also famous for its massive treasure trove, which was discovered in 2011. The treasure, which includes gold ornaments, diamonds, rubies, and other precious stones, is estimated to be worth over $20 billion, making it one of the richest temples in the world.

Strict dress code:

Men are required to wear a dhoti (a traditional Indian garment) or a mundu (a wrap-around skirt), and women are required to wear a saree or a long skirt and blouse. The temple also prohibits the use of mobile phones and cameras inside the temple premises.

Visitors can explore the temple’s various shrines and sanctums, including the main sanctum where the deity of Lord Vishnu is housed. The temple also has several other shrines dedicated to Lord Ganesh, Lord Hanuman, and other Hindu deities.

One of the most important festivals celebrated at the temple is the Navaratri festival, which is held in the months of September and October. The festival lasts for nine days and is dedicated to the worship of the goddess Durga. The temple is beautifully decorated with flowers and lights, and thousands of devotees flock to the temple to offer their prayers and seek the blessings of the goddess.

Apart from the temple, Thiruvananthapuram also has several other attractions that are worth visiting. The city is home to several museums, art galleries, and parks, as well as beautiful beaches such as Kovalam and Varkala.
