Why this place stands out
Sree Subramanya Swamy Temple at Kodumthara is a riverside pilgrimage shrine near Pathanamthitta, known for its circular Keralam-style sanctum, Achankovil River setting and worship of Lord Subramanya.
Sree Subramanya Swamy Temple at Kodumthara is a respected Hindu shrine close to Pathanamthitta town in Keralam. Dedicated to Lord Subramanya, also known as Velayudha Swamy, the temple stands beside the Achankovil River and benefits from a peaceful riverside setting. One of its most distinctive architectural features is the circular srikovil, or sanctum sanctorum, crowned by a conical roof—a form strongly associated with traditional Keralam sacred architecture.
The complex also includes shrines for several sub-deities, reflecting the layered worship traditions common in old Keralam temples. Keralam Tourism places the site only a few kilometres from Pathanamthitta town, making it convenient for visitors exploring the district headquarters and nearby Omallur or Malayalapuzha. The combination of river, trees and temple architecture gives Kodumthara a calm atmosphere, particularly outside festival periods.
Visitors should follow the temple’s local dress and entry customs and remember that the site functions first and foremost as an active place of worship.
