Why this place stands out

Sree Vallabha Temple is a celebrated Vishnu shrine in Thiruvalla, Pathanamthitta, known as a Divya Desam and for its granite Garuda pillar, distinctive rituals and Kathakali offerings.

Sree Vallabha Temple is one of the principal religious landmarks of Thiruvalla in Pathanamthitta district, Keralam. Dedicated to Lord Vishnu as Sree Vallabhan, the temple is revered in the Sri Vaishnava tradition and is counted among the 108 Divya Desams praised by the Alvar saints. Among its most striking architectural features is the tall Garuda sthambha, traditionally credited to the master craftsman Perumthachan and carved from a single block of granite.

The temple is also known for customs that distinguish it from many other Keralam shrines. Kathakali has a special place here as a ritual offering booked by devotees, linking sacred worship with one of Keralam’s best-known classical art forms. The annual festival includes distinctive offerings and processional traditions.

Located in Thiruvalla, the temple is easy to include in a heritage or pilgrimage itinerary with nearby churches, Kaviyoor and Niranam. Visitors should follow the temple’s entry, dress and worship rules.
