Tejaswini River is a major northern Keralam river flowing through Kasaragod to the Arabian Sea, shaping Valiyaparamba backwaters, Achamthuruthi island, village scenery and Azhithala estuary.
The Tejaswini River, also widely called Kariangode or Karyankodu in different stretches, originates in the highlands and flows through Kannur and Kasaragod districts before reaching the Arabian Sea near Nileshwaram-Azhithala. Keralam Tourism describes the river as about 64 kilometres long and also identifies it as one of the rivers feeding the Valiyaparamba backwaters. Within Kasaragod, Tejaswini shapes a chain of landscapes that includes village banks, islands, bridges, backwaters and estuary scenery.
Achamthuruthi lies within the river near Cheruvathur, while Azhithala marks its meeting with the sea. The river is therefore more than a single sightseeing point and is best explored through several destinations along its course.
