Thoovanam Waterfalls

Thoovanam Waterfalls is one of the signature natural attractions within Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary in Idukki district. The waterfall drops through the protected forest landscape on the Pambar River and is reached through an organised trekking experience rather than by an ordinary roadside visit. Kerala Tourism describes a guided forest trek of roughly four kilometres, with the journey itself offering views of Chinnar’s unusual dry woodland, rocky terrain and river environment.

Because the trail lies within a wildlife sanctuary, visitors should use authorised Forest Department or ecotourism arrangements and follow the guide’s instructions throughout the trip. Wildlife may sometimes be encountered along the route, but sightings are unpredictable and should never be approached or disturbed. Thoovanam can be combined with Marayoor and Chinnar on the eastern Munnar circuit, making it suitable for travellers who prefer an active nature experience over a quick photo stop.

Footwear, drinking water and weather awareness are important, particularly when trail conditions are wet.
